Abstract

Abstrak This research is motivated by the ekonomic decline that occurred in sungai penuh city particularly during the covid-19 pandemic, which significantly affected income levels,employment opportunities,and cummunity walfare.one of the consequences of economic downturns is the potential rise in poverty Rates,especially among vulnerable groups who rely on informal sectors and lokal economic activities.therefore,this study aims to analyze the effect of economic decline on poverty levels in sungai penuh city during the period 2014-2024. The purpose of this study is to determine the direction and magnitude of the influence of economic decline on poverty by applying a quantitative approach using simple linear regression analysis.the research utilizes secondary data from the central bureau of statistics (BPS) of sungai penuh city, which includes economic growth and poverty indicators over the research period. The results indicate that the economic decline has a pasitive buat statistically insignificant relationship with poverty levels. The regression coefficient value of 0.024 and a significance value of 0.547 show that economic decline does no significantly affect poverty statistically.moreaver, the coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.024 indicates that only 4.2% of the variation in poverty levels can be explained by economic decline, while the remaining percentange is influenced by other factor such as social assistance policies, inflation, employment structure, and local economic dynamic. Based on these findings, is can be coucluded that the economic decline is not the dominats factor influencing poverty levels in sungai penuh city. Therefore, poverty reduction strategies should focus on social intervention programs, MSME empowerment, workforce capacity development, and regional economic diversification to strengthen economic resilience and reduce social vulnerability Keyword: Economic Decline, Poverty,GRDP, Sungai Penuh City, Linear regression
